Merry Christmas: Islamic Song (Nasheed) In Honor of Prophet Jesus (pbuh)

In the Qur'an, in a passage describing the annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Jesus ('a) is described as a Word from God: "O Mary! Verily Allah gives you the glad tidings of a Word from Him; his name is the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, eminent in this world, and in the Hereafter of those near [to God]" (3:44)

The Most Comprehensive Fatwa Against Terrorism In History

The historic Fatwa on Terrorism is one of the most comprehensive condemnations of terrorism to date and deals a devastating blow to terrorist groups and its affiliates by removing decisively any remnant of theological justifications for terrorism. No longer can the terrorists and similar organisations employ Muslim scripture with impunity to advance the onslaught of civilians...
Comprehensive fatwa against extremism and terrorism breaks new ground
This new fatwa from the renowned authority of Islamic world, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, a spiritual leader of the overwhelming majority of Muslims deals a devastating blow to al-Qaeda and its affiliates by removing decisively any remnant of theological justifications for terrorism. No longer can the Taliban and similar organisations employ Muslim scripture with impunity to advance the onslaught of civilians, be they non-Muslim or Muslim.
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri is a globally recognised authority on the law and spirit of Islam. Drawing on his deep, erudite insight into the life and teachings of the blessed Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and fourteen centuries of Islamic scholarship, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri's 600-page, detailed fatwa demolishes the theological arguments advanced by terrorists in prisons, on websites, videos and their literature.
Terrorist acts expel a Muslim from Islam
While most Muslim scholars denounce terrorism, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri goes that crucial step forward and announces categorically that suicide bombings and attacks against civilian targets are not only condemned by Islam, but render the perpetrators totally out of the fold of Islam, to become unbelievers in the divine, pristine message of Islam. This empowering, unprecedented fatwa strengthens troops and civil society bodies that are engaged in counter terrorism operations, and expels terrorists from within Islam.
Hell, not heaven
Terrorists commit acts of self and mass murder with the firm conviction that they will be rewarded by God; that they are heaven bound. For the first time in contemporary Muslim discourse, this fatwa convincingly advances scriptural evidence to demonstrate that the perpetrators of suicide bombings are destined for hell, not heaven. This bold Islamic view, amplified properly, will inject doubt into the minds of aspiring suicide bombers and thereby prevent them from this heinous crime.
No terrorism, even in war time
Modern terrorists justify their indiscriminate killings by claiming that Islamic scripture allows such campaigns in war. This fatwa opens new ground by citing Islamic sources which prohibit killing of women, children, elders, religious leaders, business people, non-combatants and even service personnel not engaged in aggression. Contrary to the mindset of the perpetrators of the 11th of September 2001 attacks in New York or the 7th July 2005 tube bombs in London, damaging enemy property or avenging a wrong done by another is strictly prohibited by sound Islamic scholarship.
Al-Qaeda, old evil with a new name
The Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) warned his followers about the dangers of extremism and terrorism. This fatwa collects evidence from early Islamic history about a group of violent renegades known as the Khawarij, the terrorist movement, emerged in the name of Islamic rule, universally accepted as being outside the fold of Islam by virtue of their extreme beliefs, violent acts, terrorism and constantly labelling other Muslims as disbelievers. Al-Qaeda and its affiliates not only share these character traits, but share a theological and political outlook that is almost identical. This fatwa enlists classical sources to illustrate that the vast majority of Muslim scholars, past and present, consider the Khawarij, the founders of terrorism, to be totally un-Islamic. The terrorists are the Khawarij of our time, based on direct evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah.
Terrorists distort the concept of Jihad
Terrorists justify their actions of human destruction and mass killings in the name of Jihad (holy struggle against evil) and thus distort, twist and confuse the entire Islamic concept of Jihad.
There are people who invoke the name of Islam to justify the killing of people, children, and women everywhere. It is a pity that such barbaric people still refer to their activities as Jihad whereas Jihad aims at eradicating ignorance, corruption, violence, militancy and terrorism and it establishes peace, tranquillity in the inner-self of human beings and in the society.
How the states should deal with terrorists
A state cannot be allowed to give the Khawarij any concession in the name of dialogue or stop military action without their complete elimination according to the explicit instructions of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). The only exception as to when they can be spared is that they lay down their arms, repent of their actions and vow to honour the state laws and the state.
Keeping hostages or murdering foreign delegates
It can in no way be permissible to keep foreign delegates under unlawful custody and murder them or committing mass killings and destruction on the pretext of retaliation for the interference, unjust activities and aggressive advances of their countries.
Today's tragedy is that terrorists, murderers, mischief-mongers and rioters try to prove their criminal, rebellious, tyrannous, brutal activities as a right and a justified reaction to foreign aggression under the garb of the defence of Islam and national interests.
Forbidden acts can never be justified by so-called "good intention"
An evil act remains evil in all its forms and content; whatever we may interpret as injustice, this principle remains the same. Therefore, no forbidden action can ever become a virtuous and lawful deed due to goodness of intention.
Using rhetoric and claim good intention to spread disorder
Many people will make conversation, appearing pleasant in the arena of superficial arguments. They will swear on their good intentions, and declare Allah witness to their noble objectives and pious aims. Despite their assertions and testimonial claims, however, Allah has declared them miscreants and evil-mongers to face the torment of Hell.
Terrorism, carnage and mass destruction can never be justified in the name of any intention of enforcing Islamic commands and its judicial system. Nor can these reprehensible activities be any exception to the rule, or be overlooked, or forgiven.
A new vision
Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri does not shy away from the need for political and democratic renewal of Muslim-majority countries. This, however, must not result in violence, mayhem and rebellion. Opposing the Khawarij, today's terrorists, is an Islamic duty and will earn divine recompense for this noble work. The fatwa ends with a call for reflection and reformation of contemporary Muslim affairs.

Three Anti-Islamic Security and Training Companies

This is a repost from the Huffington Post, but it is of utmost importance that Anti-Islamic organizations are not training our Law Enforcement and Intelligence agencies.

Three security and training companies need special scrutiny from the U.S. Justice Department for their role in spreading bigotry within the ranks of law enforcement and counterterrorism agents. Their seminars are so biased and ideologically-driven that not a single dime of tax dollars should be allowed to fund their seminars.
If tax dollars were being spent to train counterterrorism agents about the inherent violence of Christians or Jews, the public outcry and government response would be swift. Our nation's indifference and inaction writes its own indictment of our bigotry against Islam and Muslims.
In the bigoted version of counterterror training about the threat of "radical Islam" in American society every Muslim ends up being a scapegoat for our fears and anxieties in our post-9/11 nation.
Here are brief sketches of three firms spreading bigotry through trainings:
1. Security Solutions International, LLC (SSI) is a Florida-based privately held company that takes an aggressive, entrepreneurial approach to spreading an anti-Muslim agenda. PRA attended SSI's 5th Annual Homeland Security Professionals Conference in Las Vegas this October. SSI claims to have trained more than seven hundred law enforcement agencies. It produces the glossy Counter Terrorist magazine, which claims an initial subscription base of 15,000 and exposure to 65,000 homeland security professionals. Remarkably, although SSI stands at the forefront of fear-mongering about Islam and Muslim Americans, the Department of Homeland Security has officially approved SSI's counter-terrorism training in Israel.

SSI called the conference a "central event in the First Responder calendar." DHS was listed as a Silver Sponsor of the conference, where participants heard SSI President Henry Morgenstern and David Gaubatz, the author of Muslim Mafia International, rant about alleged "Muslim Brotherhood infiltration" of the United States through front organizations that allegedly provide financial and ideological support to terrorists, influence politicians, and stifle the truth through litigation against hate crimes.

2. The Counter Intelligence Centre (CI Centre) functions as a training academy and speakers' bureau in the D.C. beltway. Here, veteran cold warriors mingle with a new breed of Muslim converts and terrorism pseudo-experts to propagandize about Global Jihadi Threat Doctrine--a conspiracy theory that renders all Muslims suspect and replaces the Soviet threat with a new existential, permanent threat from Islam. CI Centre's high-profile faculty garner media attention as experts, and forge connections with senior officials and a network of neoconservative foundations, many of whom join the Centre on its annual Spy Cruise.
3. International Counter Terrorism Officers Association (ICTOA) is a nonprofit founded by New York Police Department officers. The ICTOA gives speakers a pulpit to address a cross section of law enforcement. At this year's convention, Walid Shoebat gave a five-hour keynote speech peppered with vignettes of rape, gutting, beheading, burning, and killing of victims by Muslims, whom Shoebat alleges are all violent. Shockingly, not a single one of the hundred fusion-center analysts, sheriffs, police, or military personnel in attendance questioned any of Shoebat's theses.
The same conference included speakers from the FBI's New York Field Office and the federal Terrorism Screening Center with Steven Landman of the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT). IPT is led by Steve Emerson, a former freelance journalist who has been repeatedly criticized for producing faulty analyses and having a distinctly anti-Islamic agenda.

These vignettes are based on a forthcoming report by attorney Thomas Cincotta who works across the room from me at Political Research Associates.

Yesterday, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) called for action. The group noted the investigative report on post-9/11 government surveillance that was published recently in the Washington Post had highlighted the activities of trainers whose "views on Islam and terrorism are considered inaccurate and counterproductive by the FBI and U.S. intelligence agencies." Their statement went on to say:
"The use of ill-informed and agenda-driven 'experts' will inevitably result in law enforcement practices that are based on misinformation, not on our nation's legitimate security needs," wrote CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad in a letter to Attorney General Holder.

He said the attorney general recently told American Muslims that "law enforcement has an obligation to ensure that members of every religious community enjoy the ability to worship ... free from intimidation, violence or suspicion."
Jeff Stein in the Washington Post reported more details in his story on the CAIR statement yesterday
CAIR originally asked Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Robert S. Mueller, III to review these trainings in a letter sent August 2, 2010. Articles describing bigoted trainings posted online date back to early 2008.
Attorney General Eric Holder needs to act swiftly to correct this injustice from spreading more bigotry against an entire religion and its practitioners.
What You Can Do: Call the office of Attorney General Eric Holder and leave a message on the public comment phone line: 202-353-1555. Ask what is being done. Be patient with the long recorded mesage.

Why Professor Seyyed Hossein Nasr Supports Zaytuna College

Considering that Dr. Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Imam Hamza Yusuf (www.zaytuna.org) are two of my favorite American Islamic Scholars, I am very excited by the endorsement of the Zaytuna College by Dr. Nasr.  I am happy I have lived long enough to see Sunni and Shia scholars (both in the path of tasawwuf) working together to make a better Ummah that is peaceful, tolerant and inspiring mashallah!

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Assalamu alaikum wa ramatullahi wa baraktuh.

The Ahlul Bayt Society of Columbus hopes to establish an Islamic Center dedicated to the
Prophet Mohammed and his purified family (peace be upon them all).

In addition to serving as a mosque, the planned center will also host religious, social and
educational activities such as: weekly recitation of Dua Kumail, Sunday school for youth,
celebrating the days of Eid, commemorating other important days in the Islamic calendar
and serving as location for guest speakers and lecturers.

We are currently raising funds to make the dream of "Ahlul Bayt Islamic Center" become a
reality. There is little doubt it will be of benefit to everyone in our community and finally
provide us with a single location to gather ... and one that we can call our own!

'Karbala source of Shia-Sunni unity' - Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish Prime Minister

'Karbala source of Shia-Sunni unity'
Fri Dec 17, 2010 2:22AM
The Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended an Ashura Day ceremony in Istanbul emphasizing that the Karbala tragedy affects all Muslims and should serve as a source of unity among Sunni and Shia Muslims.

This was the first time Erdogan has joined the Ashura Day since coming to power in 2002.

The commemoration ceremony, honoring the martyrdom of grandson of Islam's prophet and the third revered Shia Imam Hossein (PBUH), was held in Halkali's Ashura Square on Thursday. Nearly 4,000 people attended the ceremony, including top state officials and representatives from diplomatic missions and civil societies.

Addressing Shia Muslims, Erdogan said, "Our prayers, cries, and screams have been echoing in the sky for 1,300 years."

“Hussein's sacrifice is [a] unification rather than a farewell, it is a beginning rather than an end, brotherhood rather than separation. It is solidarity and integration,” Erdogan emphasized at the ceremony, adding that the Karbala tragedy had caused all Muslims pain for more than a millennium.

“Nobody is superior to anyone in these lands, not the Sunni to the Shiites, not the Turkish to the Kurdish, the Laz to the Circassian or the Persian to the Arabs,” the prime minister added. “We are all the same in this land, together, brothers.”

The prime minister also condemned the terrorist attack during an Ashura ceremony held Wednesday in Iran's Chabahar city, where 39 people were killed and more than 80 wounded. “Killing innocent people is a shameful crime, be it for whatever reason, such as religion, ideology or ethnicity,” Erdogan said, according to Hurriyet daily.

Lastly, he urged the Sunnis and Shias to put aside their differences and unite.

Hussein ibn Ali (PBUH) was born in Medina in 626 CE and was martyred in 680 CE during the battle of Karbala. He was the son of Ali-ibn Abutalib (PBUH), the first Imam of the Shia.

Ashura ceremonies symbolize eternal and unwavering stance of truth against falsehood and humanity's struggle against tyranny realized by Imam Hussein (PBUH).

Ashura is the 10th day of the Islamic lunar month of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.

The War of Karbala & The Martyrdom of Imam Hussein

"Whoever follows Islam and the Sunnah (Tradition) of Prophet Muhammad cannot pledge allegiance to an oppressor, or can such a person fight alongside an oppressor or excuse an oppressor or justify his oppression."

The War of Karbala & The Martyrdom of Imam Hussein

Muharram, Karbala, and Imam Hussein: The Legacy of Prophet Muhammad’s Grandson

The Islamic year begins with the month of Muharram and terminates at Dhu alHijjah. Its commencement with the month of Muharram and termination thereat with Dhu al Hijjah is an indication that the journey of religious life in Islam begins and ends with sacrifice, the implication being that a Muslims life in its entirety is molded with the intent of sacrifice.  While [the month of] Dhu al Hijjah presents us with Prophet Abrahams intense love of God and an earnest desire to achieve shahadat, Muharram is an invitation to a practical witnessing [of surrender] to that shahadat by the martyr Imam Hussein. On the tenth of Dhu al Hijjah, Ishmael in his submission to God offers his head on the altar of sacrifice, but God accepts this act of submission prior to the separation of the head from the body. And on the tenth of Muharram, not just the grandson of the Prophet, but those of his kin, present their necks in resignation [out of submission] in the Heavenly courtyard of acceptance.

In the prohibitive month of Muharram, Imam Hussein, the house-hold of prophecy [nubuwwat] accompanied with his companions [ashab] (who according to conflicting traditions number not more than 145), journey to the land of Karbala for the sake of upholding the sanctity of Gods religion, against an unjust, oppressive and dictatorial system, as they gathered to raise the standard of struggle. With the exception of the honorable ladies observing hijab and Imam Zaynul Abidin, all the honorable souls drank the cup of martyrdom. This is a momentous sacrifice in the history of mankind, which took place in the month of Muharram, and God the Almighty entered this as a sign (sha'ir) from the Muslim community [ummah] for eternity.  So, the events of Karbala are not just for those who call themselves Shias but are important to every Muslim and every person of conscience.

The Event of Karbala ... Is it a mere historical happening? The martyrdom narrative and the events that transpired with Imam Hussein and the rest of his companions are duly remembered. In certain circles, this
event and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein are treated as mere historical happenings liking it to the misfortunes and the mountains of hardship that befell other [mortal] beings, resulting in their martyrdom. Likewise, they
regulate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, to just another historical narrative, not warranting any special merit.

This particularity has evolved over a certain period, with a rejection of its mentioning from the practical and conscious realm. There is a growing realization in the minds of people that the mention of the event of Karbala
and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein lends towards Shia affiliations and is a task taken upon by them. As such, there is no importance attached towards propagating the event and martyrdom.

There is much that we can derive inspiration from in the anniversary of Imam Hussein and his martyrdom, since in his intellect which encompassed Islam, and in his heart which opened onto the human being, and in his movement which sprang from justice, goodness, and truth, he was a symbol for the meaning of a person who lived with Allah and sought inspiration from Allah for all aspects of his personality. So, when in our turn we seek inspiration from him, it is not impossible for him to be confined to a certain time or place; nor can any one event summarize him. We have seen that some histories summarize Hussein in Karbala' and summarize Karbala' in the meaning of tragedy, and when they wish to broach the meaning of the revolution in Karbala', they limit it in a narrow circle.

In the video below, there is a depiction of Zuhayr Ibn Qayn.  "Zuhayr ibn Qayn is best known for his participation in the Battle of Karbala. Despite the fact that he did not want to even speak to Husayn ibn Ali, he eventually spoke to him when his tribe met his companions and his wife influenced him into speaking with Husayn. After meeting Husayn, Zuhayr got amazed by the content of his character. After this event he got so happy with Husayn, that he volunteered to join his army against the forces of Yazid, led by Umar ibn Sa'ad. When Umar ibn Sa'd cut off the water supply (as ordered by Kufa's governor Ubayd-Allah ibn Ziyad), for Husayn and his companions, Zuhayr asked the army if he could bring some water to Husayn, his family and his companions. The army did not allow this, but said that he could drink some water himself as long as he does not bring any to Husayn and his family. Zuhayr refused saying: 'It is a sin for me to drink while the holy Imam and his family are thirsty'. After gatheration of his armies Yazid ended up with at least 40 000 men, whom were placed under the command of Umar ibn Sa'd. Husayn's army had only 72 companions, all of whom did not eat or drink for 3 days. Their supply was cut off at the third ofMuharram, one of the holy months in Islam, however they dug a few wells at the seventh of Muharram, and only drank a few sips at the seventh. At the tenth the Battle took place. An anti-Islamic website states that Husayn sacrificed his family and companions as well as himself in the pursuit of power. This is not true however, because if Husayn wanted power he would have easily attained this by surrendering to Yazid. A reasonable question that arises from the statement that Husayn wanted power is, if Husayn was looking for power, why did he bring women and children with him? This proves that Husayn was never looking for power but wanted the women, children and his son Ali ibn Husayn, the only male survivor of the battle, to be witnesses to his sacrifice in order to convey the message of Islam by showing the great sacrifice of Husayn. According to Muslim and some non-Muslim tradition, Husayn's sacrifice, was in the purpose of saving Islam and also to influence individuals to alter their destinies. Husayn split his army into three parts, the left flank, the right flank and the Ahl al-bayt. Ahl al-Bayt in Arabic means people of the house, and refers to the family of the Prophet of Islam Muhammad." [source: wikipedia]

How can we be a companion of The Prophet’s Grandson? Whoever follows Islam and the Sunnah (Tradition) of Prophet Muhammad cannot pledge allegiance to an oppressor, or can such a person fight alongside an oppressor or excuse an oppressor or justify his oppression. Therefore, shorten your tears when they are tears of history, and let them flow when they are tears of the oppressed and downtrodden human beings. Karbala in its entirety was about oppression, since it sprang from the message in the path of justice, and it sprang from the heart of reality in order to argue against that reality, to revolt against it and to change it. Do you wish to be like The Prophet? If so, the issue is not to cry much, even though crying has its meaning. And the issue is not to mourn much and beat oneself, though that has its symbolism. Instead, the issue is to face reality in its entirety and to live that reality as Imam Hussein lived it and his family and companions lived it. They did not remain neutral in the face of the reality of oppression and arrogance. Do not move with Hussein in history; instead, move with him in reality, revolution, and change. So each of us should be Hussein, even if only one percent. Because when we live Hussein in his method, thought and spirit, and in his opening onto the issue of justice and liberty in the human being not only are we following the Sunnah (Tradition) we will find the audience of Muharram, Karbala and Imam Hussein among us today, and not just speak of its audience in 61 AH.

The oppression of Al-Qaeda, Taliban, and the extremist right are something that all peoples of every faith, creed, and culture needs to stand against.

We as a united Muslim community must fight against extremism, oppression and hypocrisy.  The oppression of Al-Qaeda, Taliban, and the extremist right are something that all peoples of every faith, creed, and culture needs to stand against. We as a human society on earth need to work and strive (Jihad) towards peace and love, the love that was taught by the Prophet Muhammad and his family.  The forces of extremism wish to bring us "Qital" or murder and death. We can not stand by while forces of extremism try to divide us and conquer us and turn the world into their worldview.  Imam Hussein stood up against the tyranny of the forces of extremism and hypocrisy.

Iranian Dog Shelter: In Need of Support

I was sent this website for an Iranian Dog Shelter in Iran that needs financial support, if people want to help, please visit this website: www.cal.ir

Murray
Murray was first featured in a group picture at the quarantine house -- along with Darya, Rocky (now Vafa) and Naani. One of our beautiful supporters asked about Darya and decided to adopt her.  When I talked to Ms Mahmoodi and asked her to get Darya ready, she was very happy--but at the same time, sad for Rexi as she said he is Darya's playmate and he'll be left behind, and will miss Darya.
My bad, I confused Rexi with Rocky--and showed Rocky's picture to Darya's suitor.  She really wanted to adopt Rexi but didn't have enough resources, so I reached out to our supporters, and thanks to Sarah Nowlin, Shirin Afshar, Sonia Vahedian, Atousa Salehi and Shirin Tehrani, we came up with enough funds to bring Rexi to her new family.
Now this is when we realized Darya's suitor really had her eyes on Rocky (now Vafa) and not Rexi ... well, we already had raised the funds for Rexi, so I was determined to bring him here.  I reached out to my network of friends, and a beautiful woman offered to foster Rexi until we find his forever loving home.  She and her daughter fell for Rexi within days, and that's when she saw the 'old soul' in this sweet puppy, and they decided to call him Budda.  Budda stayed with his foster family for about 4 week until we featured him as 'available dog for adoption'.  We got to show off Budda to several wonderful families.  Everyone who met him, fell in love with the little guy.  It was not very hard to spot the 'right' family for Budda--now Murray. Murray has fit in perfectly and is enjoying life as he so deserves.
We just received a lovely note from Murray's family -- and I'm happy to share it with you all.

Murray
What an amazing month it has been. Murray Rexy Pillow Buddah Gillum became an official member of our family on Sunday, October 3rd, and it’s tough to remember life without him.
Being part Border Collie, he herds us out of bed and down the hall every morning, so that we can take our walk and have breakfast together.
He has yet to meet a person, dog, cat, acorn, or squeaky toy he doesn’t like. He is so likable, that my father-in-law even refers to him as his “newest grandson, Murray.”
Murray, so far, has gone to the beach, camped, hiked and picked out a Halloween pumpkin. He will no doubt be the star of this year’s Christmas card, when he goes with us and our friends to pick out the perfect tree.
Murray enjoys learning new commands, and can now shake hands, wait, leave it, sit, lay down, etc.
This week, he enjoyed greeting costumed kids as they gathered candy door to door on Halloween evening. One little girl, who had met Murray on our walks but didn’t know where we lived, screamed, “Hey, that’s Murray, I LOVE HIM”.
That’s how we feel, too.
Thank you Vafa, and all of the Vafa supporters. Murray truly completes our family, and we are forever grateful that you made it possible for him to be in our lives.

Rocky
I found Rocky whimpering from being beat up. There were 7 to 8 people who had gathered around him, and were just looking. Apparently a few kids fed him some raw meat, which made him blost.
I took him to the vet, and he was given a shot and some pain meds and cream to put on his sores. I then brought him home and washed him with the shampoo the vet gave me. I put the meds on his sore and he went to sleep. He woke up a happy dog, and wouldn't stop playing with me. When I came home from work the next day, i took him and my own dog out to the park for a walk. They had a great time together. I then contacted Mrs EsnaAshari who introduced me to Ms Mahmoodi who is managing the house in Tehran for the injured dogs (like langoon) and puppies who still need to be vaccinated.
I know Rocky is in good hands. By the way I named him Rocky, because of his HUGE paws.
I pray for the day that we (the human race) would be as kind and honest, and these pure dogs.

Daisy
Daisy found her forever loving home with a wonderful American Family!
Here's a few lines from Daisy's mom, Cathy:
"As fate would have it my son and his wife Lori live next to the kind hearted and amazing Farah. Lori has been following the Vafa website for months and let me know the wonder of what happens there. In mid August we saw the sweetest little puppy named Daisy and read her very sad story
of abuse and neglect. I had been looking for a new pup to rescue for months and couldn’t seem to connect until Lori said “how about Daisy ?”
I quickly made a date to meet Farah and discuss details, we decided on foster to adopt being the most viable option. On Sunday 9/5/10 we made our trip to meet Daisy at SFO, a special thank you to the woman who kindly donated her airfare. Once we got her crate in the car we opened the door to meet her and give her some water. Upon looking into her sweet eyes there was no doubt about the mutual love that took us
over. My only reservation was how she would get along with my resident 2 year old dog, after a few challenging days I could see that it was gong to be ok and promptly let Farah know Daisy had found her forever loving home. I will be forever grateful for the Vafa Shelter for caring for her and would
like to offer a special thank you for everyone who communicated with me via Facebook and told me what kind of pup she was, all the comments about her were spot
on. She is loving and kind, very obedient and incredibly smart. It has been an awesome experience for me and my family and we are so thrilled to add Daisy to our fold.
I have rescued dogs all my life but Daisy and the Vafa shelter have taught me a new meaning of rescue and love for an animal, thank you for all you do!"

Lucky
One of the
highlights of my recent trip to Iran was meeting Ms. Esna-ashari and
seeing Vafa animal shelter firsthand. If there is such a thing as God's
work on earth, then I truly believe she and her team are doing it.
Taking care of helpless and innocent creatures with love and compassion
is within all of us. However, very few of us indeed rise to the
occasion and do it so beautifully and with heartfelt interest. I am
honored to have met her and grateful to Lucky for bringing me to this
wonderful opportunity.
I went to Iran for a couple of weeks to
celebrate Norouz with my family after 18 years; and to be at my
brother's wedding. I found Lucky on March 26th while I was taking a
morning walk in Tehran. With the gyms being closed for the Iranian new
year, I decided the best way to keep active during my visit was to walk
around town and re-explore the familiar neighborhoods of my childhood.
Anyway, I had been walking for about 1.5 hours when I came across a
little furry thing on the corner of a sidewalk on one of the side
streets in Mirdamad and at first thought it was a dead cat. But, as I
was walking past the furry little thing, all of a sudden he lifted his
head and looked at me. I realized that it was a puppy, dirty and
malnutritioned, who had probably been stranded. I just froze and kept
on looking at him, wondering what I could or should do. He was clearly
not healthy and with the rainy season that Tehran was having, I knew he
would not survive more than a couple of days. I called my brother (who
resides in Tehran) and consulted with him. After determining that there
was indeed no way to find a vet at that time (Friday morning and in the
middle of the holiday season) he suggested that I bring him home with
me. As I walked around the corner, to see if I can find something to
wrap around the puppy to pick him up, he slowly got up and followed me.
He was so weak but he was still able to show the kind of affection that
only comes from a puppy. I had made up my mind. I took off my jacket,
wrapped it around him, picked him up, and started walking towards
Mohseni Square. There, I hailed down a cab. He stopped and said he
would take me home for free! He said he has his own dog and that he
knew it would be a long time before anyone else would stop for me. I
was so touched by his kindness and paid him well upon arrival (but it
took a lot of convincing on my part before he accepted the payment).
Once home, I called down for my brother who showed up with towels,
shampoo, and a loofah. I bathed lucky twice in the parking lot
bathroom. He was scared of the water but did not once get aggressive
towards me. My sister came down with food. Once the pup was dried up,
we were finally able to get him eating. The building caretaker - Rahim
(who is a refugee from Afghanistan) - agreed to help me with watching
the puppy - whom I named Lucky - until the next day when I took him to
the 24 hour Tehran Veterinary Hospital. There, he was put on IV and
given tests and shots. He was bathed. I barely made it home in time to
get ready for my brother's wedding that afternoon. The next day, I
took Lucky back for another hygiene bath. And then I called Vafa
Shelter to be greeted by the lovely Lida Esnaashari. A couple of days
later, my dad, mom, and I drove to Karaj with Lucky. I held him in my
arms the whole drive. I don't know how I managed to muster up the
ability to leave Lucky behind. Had he been healthier and given the
appropriate paperwork, I would have brought him back to the U.S. with
me. But for now, I feel comfortable knowing that he is in good hands,
being cared for, fed, cured, and loved at Vafa animal shelter. Maybe in
the near future, I will make a trip back to see my family again and
this time bring Lucky home with me...
I am grateful to Ms.
Esna-ashari for taking in Lucky and keeping him as an 'amanati' for me.
I feel so much respect and admiration for her that cannot be expressed
in words.
All my best,

One of the highlights of my recent trip to Iran was meeting Ms. Esna-ashari and seeing Vafa animal shelter firsthand. If there is such a thing as God'swork on earth, then I truly believe she and her team are doing it. Taking care of helpless and innocent creatures with love and compassion is within all of us. However, very few of us indeed rise to the occasion and do it so beautifully and with heartfelt interest. I am honored to have met her and grateful to Lucky for bringing me to this wonderful opportunity.

Shoko
When Shoko came to our shelter she was a cute little puppy who soon grew to be a beautiful 50 pound dog. She gained her name, Shoko, due to her chocolate milk color.
She was always very gentle mannered and never got involved in tackles with other dogs. And she was so tame that no one thought she could be a good guard dog. We often thought she would end up spending all her life here at the shelter.
As pictures of our dogs spread around the world on the Internet, a suitor in USA contacted us.
The primary preparations for her relocation got done quickly.
Shoko was bathed, and housebroken before her long journey to the US.
She accepted the leash and learned all the rules of a social life with people quickly.
Finally, on Wednesday March 24th of 2010 we took her the airport for her flight to her new home.
Now, Shoko lives in Oakland, California like the princess that she is with the angel who is giving her all the love she deserves. She has been able to impress and amaze every one with her ability to adapt to her new life, and connect with her loving guardian.
Shoko’s new mom sent us a note about her:
"She is the smartest, most intuitive dog ever!  And acrobatically very talented, a wonderful pouncer and bouncer.  A great guard dog.  The most well-mannered dog (without training!).  Not one house-breaking mistake since day one!  Social and friendly with other dogs, while maintaining healthy boundaries.  I call her Chocolat Vesper Street (Vesper for James Bond's girlfriend, Street because she will always have that in her; a combination of Lady & the Tramp)."
Adopted March 24th of 2010

Max
Adopted July 2009 by Sheyda Ardalan, Tim Clarke and their son Bijhan Clarke
On my first visit to VAFA in late July of 2009, I noticed a puppy with his ears and tail cut off. He was very timid and when I approached him, he would run away.
max1
I was able to pick him up after I cornered him but knew he was not comfortable. I knew right away that he had suffered a very cruel and painful beginning and decided to adopt him. Once I made my decision, the shelter and the veterinarians started working on getting his papers together. I named him Max because he reminded me of my sister's dog, Pax.
